Congratulations on getting into Staffs Uni!

Hopefully you've already had a look around the campuses in Stoke
and found out where you're staying but there's a lot more to learn
during Freshers' Week and throughout the rest of the year.

To help you along here's a few tips for your first year.

Get to Know Us

We are the Christian Union for Staffordshire University on the Stoke-on-Trent Campus.
We will be about during Welcome Week, at the Clubs & Societies Fair and at the meet and greet in the Ember Lounge.

We will also be taking those who wish to visit some of the local churches on a Church Tour.

(If you're going to be on the Stafford campus, check out the Stafford CU website)

Getting About

» College Road is the main route the buses will take. If it's Hanley you want to get to or journey further afield, then this is probably your starting place.

» If public transport isn't your thing (or you can't afford it!) then to get in to Hanley just follow the foot prints from College Road.

» The train station is just a short walk from all the on campus accommadation and Stoke campuses. If you're planning to use the train a fair bit, look into getting a 16-25 Railcard for a third off all rail travel!

The Students' Union

The on campus Students' Union don't just run the LRV, Ember Lounge, Squeeze Box and shops. They also can help you with their free and impartial advice. They provide services such as:
» Student Advice Centre
» The Money Doctors
» Cop Shop
» Stars (Student Academic Reps)

You can find out more about them on their website.

Stoke Facts

» Even though the university has two campuses in Stoke, they're only a 2 minute walk apart.

» Stoke-on-Trent is made up of 6 towns and there isn't really a city centre. However Hanley is considered to be the centre of Stoke-on-Trent.

» Two of the UK's Christian radio stations are based in Stoke-on-Trent: Cross Rhythms and UCB.

» Robbie Williams isn't the only famous person from the area! Slash from Guns N' Roses, Murdoc Niccals from the Gorillaz and Chris Moyles all have connections to Stoke-on-Trent.

Money Saving Tips

» Look out for student discounts at all kinds of places including the local Odeon Cinema. If you don't ask you don't get!

» To save even more money throughout the year, get an NUS Extra Card. It's only £11 for the year and you can save money when shopping on Amazon,, ASOS and you get a whopping 20% off at Pizza Hut! Plus it helps support your student union.

» If you're planning to use the train a fair bit, look into getting a 16-25 Railcard for a third off all rail travel!
